Bama province is a mountainous area in China, with very little modern intervention, virtually no industry, and a way of
life that hasn't changed much in the last few hundred years, and probably even in the last few
thousand years. It is a place where 100-year-olds climb the mountain each day to work their
fields. That protective enclave from the onslaught of modern society is probably enough to
lengthen anyone's life span, but in China, there's more to the art of living long and staying
healthy. Exercise is important and staying active and working well into the elder years is
normal and desirable.
But another important part of longevity in this culture is the regular intake of herbs to enhance
the body's natural immune functions and delay degenerative aging. Most of these herbs are
intended for long-term use and are generally combined with other herbs in medicinal "elixirs" or
teas. They can also be taken in powders or pill form. And you don't have to be approaching the
golden years to benefit from them!
