This herb is also sometimes called "fo-ti." He shou wu is a blood tonic, strengthens the tendons
and cartilage, regulates blood pressure, prevents hardening of the arteries, and is considered to
nourish sexual fluids in males. It is also mildly laxative. Chinese sources also attribute to
this herb the ability to restore prematurely grey hair back to its original color. Believed to
help strengthen the lower back and lumbar area, this herb is traditionally used in longevity
formulas for both men and women.
