This is probably the most familiar of all Chinese herbs.  The Chinese name for it—"ren shen"—actually means "man root."  This herb stimulates the immune system, replenishes energy or "chi" (the body's vital energy), invigorates circulation, and slows the aging process.  Ginseng can be expensive and price often reflects the quality and potency of the herb.  The key to using ginseng properly is taking small amounts of the herb for extended periods of time.  Taking larger doses erratically is of little benefit.  Also, refrain from coffee, tea, soybeans, or turnips for two to three hours after taking ginseng.

Ginseng
He Shou Wu (Polygonum Multiform)
Epimedium
Angelica Sinensis (Dang Gui, Tang Kwei)
Astragalus
Chinese Wolfberry
Schisandra
Eucommia
Rehmannia
