The use of Chinese herbs is becoming more common in
the United States as integrative medicine seeks to combine the best of technology with the most
natural and proven forms of health care. In China, herbs are considered one of the "Eight
branches" of Chinese medicine, frequently used along with such other modalities as acupuncture,
massage, dietary therapy, and exercise. For thousands of years, Chinese herbs have been used as
a first line of "medicine" in much of Asia. Today it is estimated that approximately 80% of the
world's population depend on herbs or what we in the west might consider "alternative methods" of
healing.
