It's hard to pick up any kind of holistic or integrated
health publication these days without reading something about acupuncture, herbs, massage, touch
therapy, homeopathy, reflexology, or any of dozens of other natural forms of healing. We as a
society of healthcare consumers are becoming more and more interested in forms of healing outside
of current conventional methods.
In 1994, The New England Journal of Medicine reported a growing trend in healthcare. In the
previous year, consumers had made more visits and spent more out-of-pocket money with "holistic"
practitioners than with conventional physicians. One of the more popular methodologies indicated
was acupuncture.
